Pulte Homes Inc. will close its mortgage-processing unit in Charlotte by mid-December, eliminating nearly 90 jobs.
The company cites the continued downturn in the U.S. housing market. Pulte Mortgage Co., which lends solely to customers of Pulte Homes, will consolidate its mortgage-processing operations at the unit’s headquarters in Colorado.

Job creation in the Knoxville area will be sluggish in the fourth quarter, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey released today.

Charlotte IT hiring to increase
Charlotte-area hiring of information-technology professionals is expected to increase in the fourth quarter, according to a Robert Half International Inc. survey.
Ten percent of chief information officers in the Charlotte region plan to add IT staff during the quarter, and 2 percent forecast staff reductions.

According to the Charlotte Business Journal….
The Charlotte Observer is seeking to cut up to 10 percent of its full-time work force by Oct. 3.
Employees will be offered voluntary buyouts.
Publisher Ann Caulkins says layoffs may be necessary if not enough employees opt for the buyouts.
