A report from Catholic News service saying Mercy Health has abandoned plans for a new downtown hospital is incorrect, a Mercy spokesman says Wednesday.
According to spokesman Craig Griffith, a downtown hospital will be built in Knoxville. It’s planned to replace the Baptist Hospital at the corner of Henley Street and Blount Avenue.
“An article concerning philanthropy on the Catholic News Service’s national Web site incorrectly stated that Mercy’s plans for a new hospital have changed. The article on the CNS Web site has been corrected to remove the inaccurate language,” Griffith writes in a statement released Wednesday.
Griffith says the new hospital project is moving forward with the completion expected in three to five years.
