GM production resumes at Spring Hill plant

About 2,000 employees at the General Motors plant in Spring Hill are back at work as production of the Chevrolet Traverse resumed Monday after a shutdown of more than a month.

Plant spokeswoman Kate Neary says the full contingent of Traverse assembly line employees returned.

Neary said about 400 team leaders affected by the shutdown had returned for training last week.

Neary says production scheduling, including a shutdown set the first two work weeks of March, continues to be due to fluctuation in market demand.

On Monday, Nissan Motor Co. in Japan said it plans to cut 20,000 jobs worldwide, but a spokesman for Nissan North America said it does not expect further job cuts in the United States.

Nissan has plants at Smyrna and Decherd.
