KNOXVILLE — Knoxville Chamber officials estimate about 600 people attended the Career Transition Fair held Tuesday at the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park.

“We are pleased with the number of people who took advantage of this resource and we hope it provided some good information and helped them to prepare for the job market,” said Rhonda Rice, Knoxville Chamber executive vice president.

The transition fair, which brought together about 33 companies and organizations, offered seminars, information on job-training, resume writing, health insurance, starting a business and other issues. The Chamber and Knoxville and Knox County governments teamed up to host the event, which Rice said was the first of its kind.

The large numbers of lay-offs and business closings over the last few months prompted officials to take action, she said.
