As Goody’s Family Clothing finishes its liquidation, 154 Nashville area workers are out of a job.
According to a report released Tuesday by the Tennessee Department of Labor, the employees at Goody’s retail locations in and around Nashville will be let go at the end of February.
The company confirmed plans to liquidate in January, though details were not given.
The 55-year-old Knoxville-based retailer had 287 stores employing 9,800 people in 20 states at the end of 2008. That was after the company closed 69 under-performing stores in October, including five in Tennessee, as part of the company’s emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
During its reorganization, the company said it cut operating costs, shut a distribution center and a New York corporate office and pulled the plug on its e-commerce business. Goody’s sought protection under Chapter 11 as a response to credit and merchandise problems.
Here are the Middle Tennessee layoffs, as reported by the labor department:
Sumner County: 22
Robertson County: 27
Williamson County: 20
Dickson County: 30
Rutherford County: 40
Wilson County: 15
Goody’s had already reported the layoffs of hundreds in Tennessee, including more than 200 in Knox County and 27 in Maury County.
