Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord ranks seventh among the 100 fastest-growing metropolitan area in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Charlotte metro area added 55,368 residents in the year ended July 1, bringing the total population to 1.7 million. The area had a 3.4 percent growth rate.
Raleigh-Cary was the nation’s fastest-growing metro area, with a growth rate of 4.3 percent, followed by Austin, Texas, which grew at a 3.8 percent rate.
The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash., area had the slowest rate of growth, at 1.4 percent.
