Report: N.C. infotech jobs on upswing

North Carolina’s information-technology job market appears to be on a slight upswing, with the number of IT openings increasing in May, according to the N.C. Technology Association.

The state had 1,250 such job openings last month, the association says. That’s down 62 percent from May 2008 but higher than the 1,140 job openings reported for April.

In Charlotte, IT job openings were up 40 percent. And they rose 17.6 percent in Raleigh.

Nationwide, the IT job market continued to fall in May, with job openings dropping 4.8 percent from the previous month. But the association says it appears the national market is headed toward a recovery. “We expect that the bottom has been reached since more and more states show flat or growing job markets,” the report states.

Job categories showing an increase in demand include software developers, IT managers and IT architects/consultants.
