The Department of Energy announced today funding for 28 new wind energy projects, including two in the Knoxville area that will receive a total of almost $1.15 million.
The projects will “help address market and deployment challenges including wind turbine research and testing and transmission analysis, planning, assessments,” according to a press release.
Knoxville area funding includes $749,868 to EnerNex Corp. for documentation, user support, and verification of wind turbine and plant models; and $399,135 to the Electric Power Research Institute for integrating midwest wind energy into southeast electricity markets.
Also, Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville will receive $265,677 for multi-level energy storage and controls for large-scale wind energy integration.
A total of $13.8 million in funding for the 28 projects was announced by Energy Secretary Steven Chu.
