Magazine ranks Tennessee fifth in economic development

Tennessee has been ranked among the top states in Site Selection magazine’s annual rankings for economic development in 2009.
Tennessee rated No. 5, behind Ohio, Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

State awards grants to two East Tennessee towns for downtown help

Two East Tennessee towns were chosen to participate in Tennessee Downtowns, a program for cities and counties seeking to revitalize traditional commercial districts.
Jefferson City and Sweetwater were among two towns chosen statewide.

Chattanooga: City job growth may outpace nation

Job growth in metropolitan Chattanooga should be 20 percent faster than the U.S. average in 2010, economists said today.
Alex Miron, associated economist at for Moody’s Economy.com, said employment in the six-county Chattanooga area should grow in 2010 by 1.2 percent, compared with a 1 percent employment growth nationwide.

Tennessee biorefinery to convert wood to fuel

Tennessee officials say two companies have signed an agreement to develop a biorefinery that will convert 1,000 dry tons of wood product per day to renewable diesel or jet fuel.
Hawaii-based ClearFuels will have the facility at the Hughes Hardwood wood component products manufacturing facility in Collinwood in Wayne County.

Solar Manufacturing Plant to Create 250 Jobs in Clinton

Confluence Solar Inc. plans to build a $200 million solar manufacturing plant in Clinton, Gov. Phil Bredesen and company officials announced Thursday.
